POWELL, Wyoming — Local guitar hero Jeff Troxel will throw the spotlight on two of his ensembles when they serenade the Cody community Sunday, May 3, in a 1:30 p.m. concert at the Park County Library.
Troxel, an instructor of music at Northwest College, directs both groups, promising to make it a memorable Sunday afternoon for listeners.
The first, aptly named the Cody Guitar Ensemble, will perform a trio of tunes familiar to all ages, including the traditional folk song “Cold Frosty Morn” and “House of the Rising Sun,” the “gritty, bluesy” signature song made famous by The Animals, a 1960s British band. The troupe will strike a softer chord to close the set with the familiar Haitian folk song “Yellow Bird.”
The spotlight shines next on members of the NWC Guitar Ensemble, tour guides for a musical trip into the genres of Baroque, Gypsy jazz, samba, blues and world music. Though not as familiar, their repertoire promises to be just as engaging with tunes like “Air” by Rameau, “Samba Do, Samba Don’t” and “The Equine’s Ox” by Buzzelli, “Los Andes” by Carbajo and Troxel’s own arrangement of “Minor Swing,” by Reinhardt.
The two groups will close the show, and perhaps be responsible for a spontaneous sing along, when they unite on the closing number, the Lennon/McCartney hit “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.”
