POWELL, Wyo. ─ The Northwest College Studio Singers and Jazz Band I present their annual Jazz Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.
The concert repertoire showcases material the two ensembles performed on their late-October tour to six high schools in Wyoming and Montana, including familiar standards and tunes by contemporary composers.
Highlights from the Jazz Band’s collection include “Arranco” by Eric Richards; the well-known jazz standard “You Made Me Love You” and “Arnge Drank,” subtitled “orange juice with an attitude.”
NWC’s Studio Singers offer a lineup of improvisation and tunes including Johnny Mercer’s “Autumn Leaves” and George Shearing’s “Live Again.”
Singers and musicians will travel back to the ’60s to close the concert with “Knock on Wood,” an all-time favorite by Eddie Floyd.
Admission is free.
