POWELL, Wyo. — Three Northwest College jazz ensembles break it down in a 7:30 p.m. Jazz Showcase Tuesday, May 13, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.
The Studio Singers, Jazz Band I and II culminate the concert season at NWC by showing off the repertoire they’ve been working on spring semester.
The first two groups won acclaim at the recent UNC Jazz Festival for their song list, which includes, among others, Neal Hefti’s “Cute,” written for Count Basie; Patty Darling’s “Crystal Cover” and Jeff Lorber’s “City.” Jazz Band I will give the evening some local flavor with a performance of “Ah-he’: A Jazz Ritual,” written by NWC’s own Brad Howey, director of bands.
Jazz Band II will add more variety to the program with a list of tunes ranging from funk to swing.
The ensembles are directed by Howey and Craig Olson, a saxophone and vocal jazz instructor.
Admission is free.
