P O W E L L, W y o. - When Judith LaPlante was employed by Microsoft, she designed and delivered products that earned multiple millions of dollars in revenue for the male-dominated company. She'll share tales from the trenches at the Thursday, Feb. 28, Women's Business Roundtable in Worland.
"Invisible Woman - No Longer!" begins at noon, with networking opportunities starting at 11:45 a.m. at the Northwest College Worland Center, located in the Worland Community Center Complex. Admission is free, and lunch is included.
The one-hour program focuses on visibility, why it's important and some tactics on accomplishing it.
"Keeping your work and its effects visible can mean the difference to your next pay raise, promotion, or just being noticed," LaPlante said. "There are subtle and not so subtle ways to make an impression or have an individual impact."
She'll share real world experiences and stories from her Microsoft career and from the women she has worked with. "Some stories have happy endings," LaPlante said, "others were just good learning experiences."
In addition, she'll discuss the working style differences between men and women. "The average man and woman bring different tools and skills to the table. Both are important in the business world. Understanding some of these differences can help you relate to your co-workers, or perhaps, give you some ideas on what skills you might want to add to your 'tool belt.'"
LaPlante was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science. She retired from Microsoft after 13 1/2 years to spend more time with her family and to pursue personal interests. She and her husband recently relocated to Park County after many years of searching for "just the right area" to raise their family.
