P O W E L L, W y o. - After a rousing and well-attended launch last month, the Interdisciplinary Cafe is back on Friday, March 14. Northwest College will host the cross-disciplinary exchange at 5 p.m.in the foyer of the Park County Complex at 1501 Stampede Ave. Elegant hors d'oeuvres and entertainment are free for the sitting.
Switching from February's jazz and Latin theme, Megumi Yamazaki and Rob Stothart will turn to classical inspirations for the second Interdisciplinary Cafe. Their joint performance has taken shape over the last couple of years through their shared love of classical music.
Yamazaki is a music major at Northwest College. Hailing from Kiryu, Japan, she studies jazz with Ronnie Bedford and piano with Tim Schoessler. Stothart is an assistant professor of English at the college.
The title for their afternoon performance is "Sound Delights" and comes from the two Chinese characters that make up the Japanese word for music. Yamazaki has selected six favorite piano pieces to play, and Stothart will read from his original poetry between the selections. Stothart said he picked poems that play with sound as much as they play with sense. The piano pieces they will interlude are selections from Haydn, Prokofiev, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Upcoming cafes will feature poet Bill Hoagland and Garry Wallace, whose book "Biography of a Bird Dog: a Labrador Retriever in Wyoming" was published in March of last year. Upcoming musical guests include the NWC Studio Singers and the Montana Coyotes.
