POWELL, Wyo. - Northwest College is once again providing the public with hot horseshoeing and trimming at 1960s prices: $7 for trims and $20 for shoeing.
"The small fee helps pay for the supplies that makes this service possible, and the public makes our farrier program possible by providing students with a variety of animals to work on," Rik Mettes, NWC farrier science coordinator, said.
"In addition to the many breeds of saddle horses, we work on drafts, minis, mules and donkeys. We also welcome special-needs horses with lameness or gait issues. The focus is always on balancing feet to the horse's conformation," Mettes said.
He asks only that the animals be reasonably well behaved.
Free overnight stabling is provided as needed, with the NWC Equine Center providing clean pens, fresh water and good grass hay twice a day.
