POWELL, Wyo. - Microsoft Excel users can go from zero to 2007 in a series of three hands-on trainings beginning in January at the Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development. The trainings are designed for beginning and intermediate users, as well as for those converting to Excel 2007.

Beginners can start Saturday, Jan. 23, with Excel in a Day, which meets from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Instructor Duncan Bonine will cover the basics and a few intermediate concepts as he guides students through the electronic spreadsheet functions used to organize, calculate and analyze data.

Students learn terminology, cut and paste commands, how to enter text, values and formulas and how to insert, move and resize.  They'll also master text, number and conditional formatting, drag and drop and clipboards, relative versus absolute references, basic formulas, calculations and functions, column width, row height, spell checking, print preview, page setup, print area, charts and chart types. Cost is $70 and includes a comprehensive manual.

Experienced Excel users who want to expand their proficiency can take it up a notch Saturday, Feb. 20, in Excel-Intermediate Functions in a Day, which meets from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Bonine will cover multiple worksheets and workbooks, advanced formatting, outlining and subtotals, cell and range names, lists and tables, Web and Internet features, advanced charting, documenting and auditing, templates and settings. Cost is $70 and includes a comprehensive manual.

Excel users who want to update to the 2007 version can transition from the old menu-driven options to mastering the newer ribbon interface in just one evening with Excel-Converting to Version 2007. This class, also taught by Bonine, meets from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Users who converted to the 2007 Excel version without any training often find themselves frustrated because they can't find the options and functions in the familiar places they were accustomed to in previous versions. The ribbon interface presents a new way of thinking about functionalities, which most users appreciate once they master it. Cost for this class is $25 and includes a reference card.
