POWELL, Wyo. - Business owners and individuals who want better results from their digital cameras can learn how to achieve them through classes offered by the Northwest College Center for Training and Development in Powell.
A "Capture It - Digital Photography Basics" class meets from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21. An intermediate class meets during the same time slot a week later, on Tuesday, April, 28. Both are taught by Mack Frost from the Office of Digital Services in the Buffalo Bill Historical Center's McCracken Research Library.
The beginning class covers print options, basic photo editing techniques and creative tools. Frost will review camera features and provide usage recommendations for picture quality, formats, compression options, white balance settings and more. His goal is to make digital terminology simple and usable. He'll also discuss considerations in purchasing a digital camera.
Frost encourages participants to bring their cameras. He'll use the final half hour of the class to assist individuals with questions on accessing and navigating their own camera's menu functions.
"Capture It - Digital Photography Intermediate" expands on the basics class through more detail and editing options. Editing techniques available through Adobe Photoshop will be explored in a hands-on computer lab session. The class will also provide an overview of how businesses can use their own photos for advertising in brochures, catalogs and Web sites.
Frost draws on a lifetime passion for his teaching. His camera experience encompasses everything from Brownie cameras and Instamatics to 35mm film and 4-by-5 view cameras to the latest full-frame digital cameras. He owned Frost Fast Foto, a one-hour photo film lab, for over 10 years. In his current position at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, he digitizes archives and photo collections for online use. His print photographs can be viewed at Open Range Images in downtown Cody.
Registrations for the beginning class will be accepted through Monday, April 20, and through Monday, April 27, for the intermediate class. Cost is $20 per class or $35 for both.
