POWELL, Wyo. - With tourist season right around the corner, the Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development is offering one-night CPR and First Aid courses. Designed to help business owners and their staff prepare for emergency situations, the classes meet from 6-10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 2 and 3, at the NWC Cody Center.
The Thursday class covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults, children and infants. Participants will receive training to handle blocked airways, cardiac emergency, absence of heartbeat and discontinued breathing. AED (automated external defibrillator) usage is also covered.
The second evening focuses on first aid. Topics include sudden illness such as stroke, seizure, heart attack, fainting, shock, allergic reaction, asthma, poisoning, heat and cold emergencies, plus injuries like broken bones, sprains, dislocations, burns, open wounds and more.
Keith McAllister, an instructor of health, outdoor, and physical education at Northwest College, will teach both classes. Upon successful completion, participants receive the American Red Cross certification in Standard First Aid and CPR. Certification cards will be distributed at the conclusion of the Friday session.
Cost is $30 per person and includes both classes. Registrations will be accepted through Monday, March 30, however, early registration is recommended because of limited seating.
