P O W E L L, W y o. - To help area businesses get ready for the upcoming tourist season, the Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development will present two short April seminars on interviewing for hiring and finding an entrepreneurial spirit.
Danel LaRose will help employers learn to avoid poor hiring decisions in a four-hour seminar titled "Interviewing For Hiring-More than a Gut Feeling" that starts at 8 a.m. Thursday, April 19.
"This is for anyone who ever felt like they interviewed one person and ended up with someone totally different working for them," LaRose said. "It's also for those employers who haven't yet found the right interview questions to get more from a job candidate than the answers they think you want to hear."
In her presentation, LaRose will show business owners how to choose the best candidate by using Behavioral Interviewing® instead of "just hiring a warm body." Participants will practice coming up with questions that reveal behavioral examples of a candidate's work ethics and values, and generate rapport while seeking out contrary evidences. They'll also explore additional behavioral tools to ensure a candidate is the correct fit for their business' team.
Cost is $40 per person. Advance registration is required by Tuesday, April 17.
The center's Taking Care of Business series continues this month with a one-hour seminar titled "Finding Your Entrepreneurial Spirit," offered at no charge beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, April 26. It's presented by Mike and Margie Johnson, self-styled "obsessive entrepreneurs" who own a variety of businesses, including Cody Trolley Tours, Rivers Bend Mobile Home Park and EverythingCody.com. The Johnsons were named 2005 Business People of the Year for the State of Wyoming by the Wyoming Association of Realtors.
The couple maintains there are thousands of ways for people to create value using entrepreneurial ideas, whether self-employed or working within a company. The Johnsons will use their experience generating multiple streams of income to show others how to find, capture and implement ideas that can lead to multiple incomes.
