POWELL, Wyo. - After a long hiatus, Northwest College Instructor of Music and Piano Tim Schoessler and classical violinist Byron Hitchcock reunite for a 7:30 p.m. recital Friday, Feb. 1, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.
A Laramie native and classically trained musician, Hitchcock earned his bachelor’s degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, his master’s from the New England Conservatory, and his post-master’s artist certificate at the State University of New York Purchase College Conservatory of Music.
Schoessler said he’s excited to reconnect with Hitchcock, who is currently the associate concertmaster of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra in Rio de Janeiro. The duo performed together for five years while Schoessler was a student at the University of Wyoming. Their repertoire includes works by classical composers Schoenberg, Prokofiev and Franck.
Hitchcock’s enthusiasm, energetic fervor and “uncanny ability to grasp a musical thought and convey that to others,” as one reporter has noted, has brought him acclaim in a variety of venues including chamber music, where he’s studied under members of the Emerson, Cleveland, Takacs, Juilliard, Cavani and Miami Quartets.
His accolades include solo competitions with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project where the Bolcom Violin Concerto earned him a performance with the orchestra in Jordan Hall, and second-prize recognition in the Hudson Valley String Concerto Competition.
Hitchcock and Schoessler will perform again Feb. 3 at the University of Wyoming Fine Arts Concert Hall in Laramie.
The concert is free and open to the public.
