POWELL, Wyo. - The Northwest College Cody Center for Training and Development will offer a Certified Bookkeeper (CB) Program beginning Wednesday, Oct. 2, for experienced bookkeepers who are interested in advancing their career.
The course meets at the Park County Complex in Cody from 6-9 p.m. most Wednesdays through April 9 with breaks over several weeks to allow for studying and testing.
The course is designed to prepare students for the National Certified Bookkeeper examination. Successful completion of the exam will not only increase their market value and importance to their company or clients, but it will add the “CB” after their name, designating their professional status as a Certified Bookkeeper.
The program covers six sections, each taking place over a three-week period. Students will learn skills needed to adjust entries; correct accounting errors; and master payroll, depreciation, inventory, and internal controls/fraud prevention.
Interested participants must meet at least one of the following criteria: have bookkeeper experience, be able to pass the pre-test with an 80 percent, or take a two-session prep-class and pass the test with an 80 percent. Pre-testing begins Wednesday, Aug. 7; the two-session prep-class is scheduled for Wednesdays, Sept. 4 and 11.
Cost of the class is $759, which includes all books and materials, the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers application and test fees. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 8.
Funding via a Workforce Development Training Grant may be available for businesses sending an employee; grant details are available online. The grant application deadline is Monday, Sept. 2.
Northwest College accounting instructor Jan Kraft will teach the course. A Certified Management Accountant with 35 years of accounting and teaching experience, she earned her master’s degree in accounting from the University of Wyoming.
