POWELL, Wyoming — Coming all the way from Boston, Massachusetts, the Rhythm Future Quartet will make one stop in Wyoming on its fall tour to perform in a 7 p.m. concert Friday, Oct. 23, in the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium.
Named after a Django Reinhardt tune, the Rhythm Future Quartet of jazz virtuosos performs dynamic and fiery arrangements of Gypsy jazz standards and original compositions.
Jason Anick and Olli Soikkeli, the front men and lead soloists of the group, are considered rising stars in the world of jazz and Gypsy jazz.
According to the Wall Street Journal, “Olli Soikkeli is a riveting Finnish guitarist who combines astonishing dexterity and speed with pure soul in a way that places him among the worthiest current day successors to the legacy of the great Django.”
Jason Anick, an award-winning composer and Berklee College of Music instructor, has also drawn critical praise. The Boston Globe said, “Jason’s compositional voice is as distinctive as his virtuoso playing.”
Rounding out the rhythm section are Max O’Rourke on guitar and Greg Loughman on bass.
Before joining talents to form a quartet, the four musicians performed individually alongside notable musicians like John Jorgenson, Frank Vignola, Tommy Emmanuel, Bucky Pizzarelli, Andreas Öberg and Howard Alden.
For their debut self-titled album, the group revisited classic jazz and Gypsy jazz favorites, bringing new life to songs like “Night and Day” and “Summertime” with intricate and creative arrangements.
The Rhythm Future Quartet will also conduct a free clinic at 4 p.m. Friday in Room 29 of the Nelson Performing Arts Center.
Admission for the NWC concert is $10. Senior citizens pay $5, and NWC students are admitted free.
