POWELL, Wyo. - The Big Horn Basin community is invited to audition Tuesday, Sept. 20, for “A Flea in Her Ear,” an updated French comedy to be staged in December at Northwest College. Open auditions will held from 7-9 p.m. at the Nelson Performing Arts Center Auditorium in Powell. Callbacks will be held the following evening, Wednesday, Sept. 21.
“This play was originally written in 1907 by Georges Feydeau during the Belle Epoque (Beautiful Era),” said director Fred Ebert, an instructor in speech communications and forensics at NWC. “We’ll be performing a new translation done by David Ives’ in 2006. It’s absolutely hilarious, a classic farce with plenty of slapstick. If you ever watched the 1970s and ’80s television sitcom ‘Three’s Company,’ you’ll have an idea of what to expect.”
The script has speaking parts for eight women and nine men. Characters onstage range in age from mid teens to mid 60.
“In addition to actors,” Ebert said, “I’ll need lots of help designing and building scenery, costumes and lighting. There’s a job for anyone who’s interested in participating. Our goal, as always, is to produce a good show and have a lot of fun doing it.”
This is a community theater presentation sponsored by Northwest College, but participants can earn college credit if they want.
Ebert said not every actor needs to be present at every rehearsal and he builds in a lot of flexibility to accommodate busy schedules.
Rehearsals run from 6:30-9 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. “A Flea in Her Ear” will be staged Dec. 9 and 10.
