POWELL, Wyoming — A “Frozen Wonderland” is forecast Saturday, Dec. 5, inside the Nelson Performing Arts Center at Northwest College, with a strong chance for toe tapping and spontaneous outbursts of singing throughout the evening.
The seasonal phenomenon is courtesy of the Northwest Civic Orchestra, which will perform a 7 p.m. concert of popular holiday selections.
“This program is guaranteed to get even hard cases like Ebenezer and the Grinch in the mood for the season,” conductor Maurine Akin said.
Younger audience members might most appreciate selections from the Disney animated film, “Frozen” or “The Nutcracker,” Akin said. Their parents and grandparents may prefer familiar favorites like “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “Winter Wonderland.”
The orchestra’s string section is featured in Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, and the brass take center stage for a few traditional carols.
And in case the weather outside is extra cold, the evening will start with “Sleigh Ride” to warm things up (composer Leroy Anderson had his original idea for the piece during a heat wave in July 1946).
The audience is invited to warm up again at a post-performance reception immediately following the program.
The concert is one of several events planned over the weekend in the “Frozen Wonderland” Country Christmas sponsored by the Powell Valley Chamber of Commerce.
General admission is $7. Senior citizens pay $5, children and NWC students are admitted free.
