It still will be several months until the Northwest College men’s soccer will play an official competition, but the Trappers were able to take the field this weekend in two scrimmages.
NWC ventured to Casper on Saturday for exhibition matches against Casper College and Colorado Northwestern Community College. In a long offseason with players antsy to return to action, the games came at the right time.
“It was a good trip,” NWC head coach Aaron Miller said. “It’s good to play because our guys were dying to play, even if it was just a scrimmage.”
The formats for the contests were 50 minutes for each scrimmage. Northwest fell 2-1 to Casper and tied Colorado Northwestern 2-2.
But the trip was more about gaining experience in a match setting than winning, as the results do not count in any form.
“It was just good to see the guys on the field,” Miller said. “With us practicing every day, it’s good that we could even just hit the road and have the guys playing their music and having fun. It’s great for building a team bond.”
The Trappers will begin their season in the spring, with competition slated to start on April 7. Miller hopes exhibitions like Saturday’s games sharpen the team before NWC begins official competition.
“We have a lot of promise,” Miller said. “It’s great that we get to work on the intangibles and improve them.”
