NWC Defeats Northwest Kansas
The Northwest College Trapper soccer teams were in action over the weekend at Great Bend, Kan. Both the men’s and women’s teams played two games during the Kansas trip.
For the Trapper men, ranked 18th nationally, the season began with a 2-0 loss to Barton Community College. Barton was one of a handful of teams to receive votes in the preseason polls but not earn a ranking.
The defending Region IX champs bounced back the following morning with a 2-1 overtime victory over Northwest Kansas Tech.
For the Trapper women, their season also started with a 2-0 loss to Barton. Northwest’s women’s team earned its first victory of the season 2-1 over Northwest Kansas in a contest the Trappers controlled with far more disparity than the final score, outshooting the Kansas school by a 20-1 count.
The Trappers were still returning from those Sunday games when the paper went to press. We’ll have full coverage of the Trappers’ opening weekend of the soccer season in a future issue. The Trappers return to action on Friday at North Idaho College. The teams will also play Peninsula Community College over the weekend.
