Men’s Team Selected No. 18 to Begin Year
Add another first for the young Northwest College men’s soccer team. For the first time in program history, the Trappers will begin play this fall with a national ranking. Fresh off a 15-5-1 performance last year that culminated with a Region IX tournament championship, the Trappers earned the No. 18 spot in the preseason top 20 released last week by the National Junior College Athletic Association. While the team garnered a national ranking at times last fall, this will be the first year Northwest College has opened the year with a number in front of the school name in the rankings
The Trappers’ Region IX rival, Otero, sits right behind as the No. 19 team in the land. Laramie County Community College was one of nine unranked schools to receive votes in the preseason poll, giving Region IX strong representation in the national poll to start the year.
Barton Community College, the Trappers’ opponent when they open the regular season on Aug. 25, is another of those unranked teams who received votes in the preseason poll.
The Northwest College men’s soccer team was the only fall program to receive mention in the preseason batch of rankings released by the NJCAA. The Trappers’ volleyball team will have an Aug. 18 scrimmage against Sheridan College in Cabre Gymnasium.
