The NWC men continued a strong start Wednesday, following a 3-0 shutout of Utah State University Eastern with another shutdown outing.
Javier Sanchez scored on a Sam White assist to give the Trappers a 1-0 lead at the break before Sanchez cross-kicked an assist to Jeremiah Gagnone for the final score in the 67th minute.
Goaltender Erik Wehse made 11 saves for NWC.
In the Trappers’ Thursday match, Western Wyoming ended NWC’s bid for a third consecutive shutout with a 3-1 win. Sean McManamon broke through on a runner to score with 19 seconds remaining in the first half to make it a 2-1 Western Wyoming advantage, but the hosts added an insurance goal after the half and NWC could not recover.
Wehse made eight saves on Western’s 11 shots. The Trappers earned 17 shots on goal of their own, but their inability to convert more left Hill frustrated once again.
“We just need to make some simple tactical adjustments,” he said. “And we really need to finish. The missed opportunities are hurting us.”
