Second-Half Goals end NWC’s Season

The Northwest College men’s soccer team wrapped up its first season with a 2-0 loss to fellow soccer newcomer Otero in the Region IX championship game on Saturday. The contest was played in Scottsbluff, Neb.
After playing the Trappers to a scoreless tie over the first 45 minutes, Otero struck twice after intermission while holding Northwest College scoreless for only the second time all season.
It was the third win in as many meetings this year for Otero against Northwest College. The Trapper men wrap up their inaugural season with an 8-5-2 overall record.
The Trappers advanced to the regional title game with a hard-fought 2-1 overtime victory against Laramie County Community College. Like the championship game, the Trappers and LCCC went into intermission without a goal being scored.
That changed in the second half as Jonathon Chavez fed Lakeland, Fla., product Legofi Crawford for the Trappers’ only goal of regulation. LCCC, which had defeated Northwest just days earlier by a 4-0 count, countered with a Cord Stimpson strike to force overtime.
In the extra period, Brazil’s Adrian Elicerio crossed a ball in from his midfielder’s spot and found countryman Leonardo Medeiros for the game winner.
On the women’s side, Northwest College’s first regional tournament appearance was a rough one. The Trapper women surrendered four goals in each half to fall by an 8-0 tally against LCCC.
LCCC entered the contest ranked No. 10 nationally. The Eagles swept Northwest in all three of the teams’ meetings this season.
Northwest College wraps up the women’s soccer season with a 2-9-1 record.
