NWC Swept By USUE, Men Lose To SLCC
The Northwest College men’s and women’s soccer teams each dropped their non-conference matches at Utah State University Eastern on Friday.
The men’s team has followed its four-game win streak with a three-game skid, including Friday’s 2-1 loss to the Golden Eagles, and a 3-2 loss to Salt Lake City College’s club team on Saturday.
The men are now 6-5 overall and 4-2 in Region IX.
Northwest’s women lost 3-1 to the Golden Eagles and now sit at 5-5 overall and 5-3 in Region IX play.
The Trapper men fell in a 2-0 hole by the 25th minute against USUE, and didn’t have enough firepower to complete a comeback.
Charlie Gleisinger scored in the 57th minute but none of Northwest’s other eight shots on goal could find the back of the net.
Nate Snyder made three saves in a full 90 minutes.
Satsuki Ito and George Battersby scored second-half goals in the loss to the Bruins, but it wasn’t enough to erase a 3-0 first-half deficit.
Gleisinger assisted on Ito’s goal.
Connor Tornquist and Alex Basulto shared the goaltending duties in Salt Lake.
The Northwest women’s team got out to a lucky 1-0 lead on Friday when the Golden Eagles scored an own goal. They quickly undid the damage, however, and took a 2-1 lead by halftime.
A third goal in the 60th minute sealed the deal and gave the Trappers their first loss in four games.
Both teams remain on the road this weekend.
The women play at Western Nebraska at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, with the men following at 3:30 p.m.
The men take the field first, at 1:30 p.m., when the Trappers head to Laramie County on Saturday. The women follow for a 4 p.m. start.
