Leads Trapper Men Past Utah’s Game Gear
Returning to his hometown high school court in Cody, Northwest Trapper freshman Blake Hinze tossed in 19 points to lead the NWC men to a 96-67 win over the Game Gear all stars Saturday.
Hinze tied for the team lead with three 3-pointers and had seven assists, five rebounds and three steals.
“It was just really comfortable,” said Hinze about playing on his home court. “I’m still trying to get used to it here, so it’s a little different here. It was nice to go home and see everyone.”
Hinze also wanted to thank his friends, his family and everyone in general who came out to watch the Trappers play in Cody. The support meant a lot to him and his teammates, he said.
Head coach Brian Erickson thought overall the event was a success. He described it as a combination of a home and away game — not playing on the home court but having the hometown crowd.
As a team, NWC shot 62.5 percent from the free throw line, 45.8 percent from the 3-point arc and 48.6 percent from the field.
“Wasn’t very excited about our offense the first half,” said Erickson.
He felt his team was jogging and not sprinting and waiting for the ball on passes.
“Offense was a lot better,” said Erickson of the second half. “Defense was pretty good; we had 13 steals overall.”
Sklyer Zabriskie and Jonathan Koud each scored with 11 points for the Trappers.
Sukhjot Bains was fourth highest scorer with 10 and leading rebounder with 12, split evenly between offensive and defensive boards.
Next highest rebounder was Levi Londole with six, having five defensive and one offensive. Londole, Carter Baxter, and Devonte Morgan each had nine points. Across the roster, 13 out of the 14 players put points up on the board.
“Overall, pretty proud of them,” said Erickson of the team.
NWC basketball will play in Sheridan at the Lions Club Tournament on the 25th and 26th. On Friday they will play against Dakota College Bottineau at 3 p.m. and will play Williston State College at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Trappers will play at home on Tuesday, Nov. 29 against Rocky Mountain College JV at 7:30 p.m.
