Saturday’s Northwest College men’s home basketball game against Little Big Horn College has been cancelled.
Originally scheduled for 4 p.m. at Cabre Gym, the Region IX game was called off because the Rams’ roster is down to four healthy players.
A combination of injury and academic problems reduced the size of the roster and Little Big Horn’s scheduled game Wednesday night versus Gillette was also cancelled.
The scheduled 2 p.m. game between the Northwest women and Little Big Horn is still on.
The 19-6 Lady Trappers beat Little Big Horn 94-41 in Montana on Jan. 17.
Trapper men’s coach Brian Erickson was not notified Little Big Horn would be unable to compete until late Thursday morning.
It was too late to pull together a substitute game for Saturday.
“It’s disappointing,” Erickson said of having a game fall through on short notice. “It’s a game we need to play. We need more experience.”
Northwest is 12-13 on the season, but the Trappers own a Jan. 17, 107-82 victory over Little Big Horn.
Little Big Horn’s men’s team’s record is 0-21. It is not clear if the squad will be able to finish out its schedule of four regular-season games or be forced to cancel them.
After this season Little Big Horn is switching to Region XIII for future seasons.
With the loss of this game, Northwest has just one remaining home game, Feb. 17, against Casper College. It will be Sophomore Night for the two-year school.
