Camargo Ayala Sing To UT Tyler

Two Northwest College men’s basketball players signed to continue their playing careers together at the next level — with Juan Pablo Camargo and David Ayala signing to play at the University of Texas at Tyler.

Camargo leaves Northwest as a two-time All-Region IX selection — garnering second team honors in the 2021-22 season and being named an honorable mention last season.

Over his two years Camargo averaged 13.2 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game and .7 blocks per game on 56.7% shooting from the field over two years.

Camargo was named the Trapper Athlete of the Year in the 2021-22 season and received the Trapper Award this year.

Ayala finished his career averaging 9.1 points per game on 41.8% shooting while averaging 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists a game.

Ayala primarily served as a strong three point option for Northwest, shooting 33.8% from 3-point range on just over four attempts a game.

The two were recruited in the same class from Mexico, with Ayala hailing from Tepic and Camargo from Ciudad Juarez.

They head to Tyler, Texas, with two years of eligibility remaining for both.

The Division II school finished with a 9-17 record last season with a roster that featured only three seniors.

Camargo and Ayala will look to make an impact at the next level after compiling a 33-27 record over two years at Northwest.
