Trappers Drop “Interim” Title In The Wake Of Semifinal Season
A familiar face will return to the sidelines of Ken Rochlitz Court as the Northwest College Trappers officially named Brian Erickson head men’s basketball coach for the 2013-2014 season. Erickson coached the Northwest College Trappers to a 22-11 season and a Region IX tournament semifinal appearance while serving as interim head coach this past winter.
He served as the team’s assistant coach the three seasons before that. Erickson ascended to the role of interim head coach this past season after former Trapper coach Andy Ward was named an assistant coach at Idaho State University last spring. During Erickson’s three years as an assistant coach for the Trappers, Northwest compiled a 65-29 overall mark.
“We believe Brian is a good fit for Northwest,” said Sean Fox, vice president for student affairs. “We’ve been able to see him in action at Northwest College. We’re impressed with what he’s accomplished already, and we see his potential.”
Erickson was familiar with community college basketball prior to his arrival at Northwest College. He started his own student- athlete career as a member of the Eastern Wyoming College basketball team in 2002, where he played on two Region IX championship teams. He later transferred to Montana State University-Northern.
Northwest’s appearance in the Region IX semifinals this past season marked the team’s deepest journey into the postseason in a number of years. The Trappers also had one of their players, sophomore Jeffrey Solarin, named an honorable mention junior college All-American this past season under Erickson.
Erickson holds a bachelor’s degree in business technology and a master’s degree in sports management from the United States Sports Academy. In addition to his basketball roles, Erickson has previously worked as an admissions representative at Northwest College.
