Seth Bennett thought about where the Northwest College men’s basketball team is sitting with its 14-6 record....
Bennett, who once led Meeteetse to a 1A football championship, comes off the bench for Northwest and is a pass-first guard. In the Trappers’ 101-73 triumph at Crow Agency, Mont., Bennett changed it up.
He shot 5-for-7 from the field and made his only three-point try.
“I got to play quite a bit that day,” Bennett said. “I decided to look for my shot. I wanted to see how it went.”
It went well for the Trappers in both of their games. Last Saturday they also bested Miles Community College 88-73.
The Trappers shot 50.7 from the field in that game and demonstrated good ball movement with 21 assists. Northwest’s scoring was particularly well-distributed, with eight players scoring between 8 and 14 points.
Top man was Marshall McArthur of Powell with 14 points. Coach Brian Erickson noted for one stretch in the Miles game he had four area players on the floor at once, including McArthur, Bennett, Blake Hinze of Cody and Carter Baxter of Powell.
“That’s the best game he’s played all year,” Erickson said of McArthur, who shot 7-for-12 and added 3 assists.
Center Damon Leach had a monster game against Little Big Horn with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Luc Lombardy (15) and Levi Londale (12) joined Leach and Bennett in double figures in that game.
The Trappers recorded an astounding rebounding margin of 57-20 over the Rams.
Rebounding (43-27) also contributed to the win over Miles. Sukhjot Bains’ 10 boards led the team and he also scored 8 points.
Hinze (13 points), Baxter (11), Leach (10) and Londale (10) joined McArthur in double figures.
Erickson said the Trappers showed signs of rust after their long holiday break and the Little Big Horn game helped them regain normalcy.
“It was a really good game to be us again,” he said.
