Graduation 2020

Posted: April 21, 2020

Greetings Trappers,

These past few weeks have been difficult for everyone, yet you’ve shown up, you’ve rolled up your sleeves and you’ve gotten to work on your studies. NWC couldn’t be prouder of you and your commitment to completing your educational goals under some pretty demanding conditions this semester. A much deserved kudos to you all!

We’re on the homestretch now and graduation is right around the corner. As we announced on March 25, we will not be able to hold the regularly scheduled commencement ceremony on May 9, but more than ever we want to celebrate our 2020 graduates and this landmark occasion in their lives. Please join us online for a virtual ceremony on Friday, May 15, at 7 p.m. to honor our 2020 graduates: https://nwc.edu/celebrate2020

2020 graduates, watch for your NWC Celebration Box in the mail in coming weeks. We’re sending you a cap and gown, along with some other goodies, so you can still celebrate this defining milestone of your life. Join us for the livestream ceremony on May 15 to listen to your graduation speakers, see yourself and your friends in the Zoom gallery, hear your name read and be awarded your degree, in the comfort of your home (or wherever you choose to be). Your family and friends can participate via Facebook Live, YouTube, or a number of other streaming services (details will be provided on our website when we get closer to the event).

We encourage you to put on your cap and gown when you get them in the mail and post your photos/videos using the hashtag #NWCgrad2020. Shout your accomplishment to the world! Following the closing remarks of the virtual ceremony, we’ll play a compilation of your #NWCgrad2020 posts so we can still celebrate each other, even as we’re apart. (If you would like to provide a photo or video for the celebration video, but would prefer not to post to social media, please email them to social@nwc.edu instead.)

As a first-generation college graduate, coming from a family where college attainment was a life-changing milestone, I can appreciate the anticipation of reaching this rite of passage. Graduates, we know this isn’t the ceremony you wanted; you deserve the real deal. NWC welcomes you to attend a future commencement ceremony so you can still walk across that stage in front of family and friends. We’ll be in touch next year with details on how to participate at a future ceremony.

You are resilient, dedicated and strong. Less than three weeks left—let’s finish strong, Trappers!
