Fall 2020 Reopening: Student Health/Reporting

Posted: August 16, 2020

Hi Trappers,

It’s hard to believe Move-in Weekend is already here for those of you living on campus.

I am excited to have campus open again. To keep campus open this semester we have put a lot of protocols in place to keep everyone safe. As well, I want you to feel prepared should you contract or become exposed to someone with COVID-19 this semester. The College will make every effort to minimize the risk while supporting students, but we also want you to feel comfortable and familiar with NWC’s student health/reporting procedures prior to the beginning of the fall semester on Wednesday.

Please view this important NWC Student Health & Safety - Fall 2020 video from Northwest College Director of Nursing Marneé Crawford.

Today’s topic: Student Health/Reporting

In accordance with the Institutional Health & Safety Requirements, NWC is providing all students with a daily health screening process and reporting tool for reporting COVID-19 health issues so that the College can support and respond with applicable resources. The reporting process is available 24 hours per day.

Please note that these protocols are subject to change, at any time, at the discretion of NWC officials.

What this means for you

  1. Each day you will need to complete the COVID-19 Prevention Acknowledgement and Student Health Screening Tool located on the MyNWC College Portal before leaving your home or resident hall or apartment.
  1. Based on responses to the COVID-19 Prevention Acknowledgement and Student Health Screening Tool, students will either continue with their day OR if they meet the following criteria the student will be advised to call the Powell Valley Hospital COVID-19 Hotline and follow their directives.

OR

  1. Students who have been instructed to isolate or quarantine by a medical provider (the Powell Valley Hospital COVID-19 Hotline, for example, should stay at home, connect to the MyNWC College portal and complete the NWC COVID Connection form. Students will be prompted to submit the following information;
  1. Student name, date they contact the Powell Valley Hospital, or received a positive test result from a health agency.
  2. Students will be prompted to select either quarantine or isolation requirements and the entity/organization providing them their instructions.
  3. Students will provide their contact information to inform the College how to reach them.

  1. After submission, the student will automatically receive a reply email, notifying them that their information has been received and that they can expect a call from the NWC COVID Connection staff within the next 24 hours. While awaiting a response from the College, a student shall self-quarantine or self-isolate in their place of residence.

All COVID Connection submissions through the MyNWC College portal will be reviewed and responded to in a timely manner. The NWC COVID Connection staff will connect/gather information and work with the student to create a response plan for relocation or support services as applicable.

Every effort will be made to support those who need to quarantine (those who become exposed to COVID-19 but have not tested positive) or isolate on campus (those who test positive for COVID-19 and also choose to recover while in campus housing). Students may also want to go home temporarily to recover.

Student Release: The NWC Student Success Center Director or Designee will work with our students to receive the necessary documents releasing students from isolation or quarantine.

We’re here to support you, and we recognize the challenges associated with the COVID pandemic. The College will not penalize you in any way should you contract and be isolated or be exposed and quarantined. This is an experience that is new for all of us, and we’ll learn together as the semester progresses.

The full screening process will be available on the MyNWC College portal but if you have questions don’t hesitate to email us at COVID-19@nwc.edu.

Note: we have masks for you. If you don’t receive them in your student mailbox this week, stop by Enrollment Services or the Business Office in the Orendorff Building or the Housing Office in the DeWitt Student Center to pick them up.

Enjoy your weekend, and please reach out if you have questions about this process.
